RE: Duo Therm Brisk Air Heat pump won't come on

We have an OEM duotherm on our coach which the manual says doesn't work below 43 degrees, at which point the coach switches over to a separate heating unit. The duotherm actually sometimes works down to 39, but not below that. Sounds like you may have the same issue.

RE: Refer won't stay on propane

This doesn't sound like your problem, but we had a similar difficulty with our Norcold last year while at altitude and after being on shore power for a month. We were able to get it going but I had to switch it off, then back to LP a few times. I am learning now too, but gather there are a lot of things in a coach that work better the more you use them (like the LP mode).

RE: Replacing chassis batteries

That's correct. I'm told they're called the chassis batteries (2 of them), as opposed to the "house batteries" (which are fine).

Thank you Tex Road Dog and Hobby Hauler. I am slowly learning to take care of my beast, and hope with such suggestions to keep it happy for many, many years to come.

Replacing chassis batteries

My mobile rv guy is now a long haul truck driver. I have been told by two people that my coach needs two Group 31 batteries. Have found a place that sells them at a reasonable (about 100) price, but is there any magic to installing them--do I just need to be sure each cable is replaced exactly as it was on the old ones (I was going to take a digital pic of the setup before I remove the cables).
Thank you.

RE: Manufacturers: who has staying power

We notice mention that Newmar has had to borrow. We have a Newmar which we are very happy with. Can you tell us where we could find out more about this wonderful company?

Chrysler 300 dingy?

Does anyone have any idea whether the Chrysler 300 can be towed, or if not, whether it can be modified to be towable. We love our Vue but the ride is difficult for my wife, a spinal patient, and the 300 seems to work really well for her.
Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated.

Jacks

We have a 43' Mountain Aire with HWH 625 hydraulic jacks. We spent the summer in Yellowstone this year and shortly after getting here noticed the rear jacks moving suddenly, repeatedly, almost all night. It feels like a small earthquake or you got hit in the rear by something.
We had a mobile rv guy who checked the whole system over (including the solenoid valves, which aren't leaking) contacted HWH. They had us measure the jack extension --it varies as much as a 1/2 inch during the day. HWH says this is not uncommon with this system on longer coaches. With the valves for the rear up front, there's more than 40 feet of hydraulic line which allows for expansion and contraction of fluid during the changes in temperature during the nighttime--sometimes 40 degrees.
I stopped using the rear jacks (am using the fronts on manual), but never heard of this before from any other HWH customer. On a rig this expensive it doesn't seem right.
I'm inclined to take it to someone who specializes in hydraulic systems like this when we get back to Indio (CA).
Does anyone out there have any expertise or experience with something like this? Is it possible we just have some air in the lines?
Thank you in advance,
Louisa

Mt. Rushmore

We have medical problems and are trying to find the closest, best full hookup park to Mt. Rushmore. We have 43' class A with Toad. Need short, short drive to the Mt.
Also, can you drive an RV into the park--to the mountain?
Thank you so very much.

HWH shudders

We have HWH 625 system on 2005 Mountain Aire and have been very happy with it up to now. 1 month ago we made it to West Yellowstone, where we're staying for a month. Jacks are down. Ever since arriving here, each night we get frequent jolts that come from the back of the coach, almost as if we've been hit by something. Then the coach feels like it drops. This only happens at night, not during the day. Temps at night have been in the mid 40s. Altitude is 7000'.
Had an RV repairman out today. Oil level in the system is as it should be. He operated it manually and automatic, but could find nothing wrong. He thought it might be the air contracting in the airbags, said the system is set up to rest partly on the jacks, partly on the airbags. He reset the system on auto, then raised each jack slightly by manual (to remove the 'effect' of the airbags).
Never heard of this before. Has anyone out there?
Thank you.

RE: I'm Officially a Newmar Owner

Beautiful coach. I agree with the suggestion to stay on top of bugs. Newmar has been very good on warranty work on our rig. We're very happy with them.
Have a good RV life!

RE: Manufacturers: who has staying power

There are other economics here that will continue to affect RVing's competition. Driving or flying to a place will become more expensive as well. While we may find ourselves staying at closer destinations or longer at any given place, I wonder if the RV industry really will be hit all that hard. There will be some changes, and a lot of people may be planning trips more carefully, but even at $6 or $8 a gallon, I think RVing may always be a very attractive alternative to flying to wherever.
One thing that will be interesting is the new powerplants they can come up with, and whether the coaches we have (and so dearly love) won't be capable of retrofit with them. Better still, whether the diesel engine--which I've been told is a very adaptable device--can be adapted in some way. I would hope the flip side to high fuel prices may be the attraction of our smarter sons and daughters to cottage industries that are both more profitable and more helpful to answering these questions.
